More Jobs! Lower Wages?

By Alberto Pupo

Jobs, Jobs and more Jobs! The economy is ostensibly continuing as unemployment has now dropped to 7.4%. To the casual observer it looks like the Country has made a recovery and things are almost back to normal. However despite the celebratory and optimistic nature of the report, there seems to be a major point of concern. The jobs that have been gaining are low paying jobs, typically found in the retail/hospitality sector. Besides the low wage nature of the job these types of jobs are are also usually of a more temporary part time nature rather than offering full time employment. This sector is the one that increased the most, and it is the one that provides the least amount for the American family. This trend has been seen during the Recovery. The economy in America seems to be Continue reading

Unions and the Private Sector

By Alberto Pupo

Labor, work, jobs, etc in America being idle is almost a crime. There is a certain Capitalist mystique built around working. Yet for a Nation that prides itself on work and working it is a Nation that has very little respect for those who toil and labor to make a living. This disrespect in particularly is strongly evident in the wonderful efficient world of the private sector. For some reason the private sector has become obsessed with the notion of “Right to Work”. This is the most misleading name for a mindset ever applied. The average American believes that Right to Work is some sort of noble wonderful crusade to be undertaken. More often than not through clever propaganda corporations paint as an easy relationship without that nasty commitment bounding the employee to an employer. The ability to take flight and leave at a moments notice Continue reading

Are Jobs Are What America Needs?

By Alberto Pupo

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, the word is repeated often and wildly. A desperate plea from Millions of Americans who are looking for a way to get by in a system that is naturally skewed to spit on a grand majority of them 99% to be exact. The word is used on the Right, Center, and Left. Each side is looking to ride the jobs lighting. During the debate Romney so desperate to capitalize on a sound bite would insert the word even when it made no sense. On the left the Obama campaign has been touting job creation and unemployment rate continually falling. Yet somehow there is a more subtle message that is often missed when it comes to jobs. Very few individual think back on the term Continue reading

The Job Creation Myth

By Alberto Pupo

Two years ago all we the people heard about was job creation. Prior to the 2010 Mid-Term elections the country was flooded by deluge of ads touting the virtues of job creation. Republican candidates made everything about the economy stupid (James Carville was wincing somewhere). The message seem clear and concise the so called socialists in power did not care about putting people to work and were instead to busy with health care. Americans bought this message (mainly due to a very low voter turnout) and thus the Tea Party tsunami was complete! After much self congratulatory banter and gloating they got to work.. or did they? Fast forward two years later months away from yet another election. The record speaks for itself what happened to the job creators? Where is the marvelous promise of an economic boom that the PAC created ads promised us incessantly. In fact the only attempt at a bill to create Jobs came from the Administration and that law has been stalled for two years. Instead we have gotten more attempt at social control and an unhealthy obsession with debt and the lust for austerity. Continue reading
