The ideas espoused during the Republican primaries have been pretty wild. For example Newt Gingrich in his earlier calls for a return to lifting child labor laws. Then naturally you have front runner Santorum trying to establish a biblical based theology in our Nation or something along those lines. For example Rick Santorum a man who is running to be
leader of our Nation has said the following about doctors.
“I believe that any doctor that performs an abortion, I would advocate that any doctor that performs an abortion, should be criminally charged for doing so.”
Yes a man who according to fact happens to have a Law Degree, perhaps someone should inform him about a little case known as Roe v. Wade which sort of legally contradicts his spin on things. Then on a slightly wilder notion Santorum goes on to say..
“Suffering, if you’re a Christian, suffering is a part of life. And it’s not a bad thing, it is an essential thing in life … There are all different ways to suffer. One way to suffer is through lack of food and shelter and there’s another way to suffer which is lack of dignity and hope and there’s all sorts of ways that people suffer and it’s not just tangible, it’s also intangible and we have to consider both
Yes in true Christian fashion a man who has been rising his personal material wealth is stating that suffering is just part of the natural process which is just another excuse to cutback at social services and welfare and give a little back to Private Corporations.
Taking the outlandish nature of the claims into account then the question arises. Do these politicians truly believe the words they speak? Deep inside their minds when the press cannot look into their thoughts do they sill feel that these wild flights of fancy are good for America? When taking into consideration the candidates they all have higher level degrees, have a college education come from stable households and backgrounds there is no reason to believe that these individuals would truly buy into these fantastical ideas. The sad matter of fact is that these individuals are simply in the business of manipulation. They are pandering what they think is an audience that will not question their motives simply because the audience is not politically astute. The truth is and yes this may be hard to believe Americans are actually more politically savvy than they are given credit for. Look at the Occupy movement, look at how regular every day working people have come to understand the lies and deceit behind financial behemoths and corporations who are pulling the strings. A populist movement which is very politically sophisticated for all its designs of being apolitical. The truth is what politicians such as Santorum count on is good ole American apathy. The fact that people don’t want to be bothered and disturbed by messy thought provoking things like the politics of the Nations.
The time has come for us to take a stand. We the people of this Nation have got to tell these Conservative politicians to stop insulting our intelligence. Stop stating nonsensical things without any factual base or evidence to support it other than a mischievous Machiavellian whimsy. The time has come for Americans to hold these individuals accountable for their outlandish words, to question these wild quotes rather than passively accepting them. The time has come to tell them to stop insulting our intelligence!
