The Need for Greed

By Alberto Pupo

Ladies and Gentlemen start your engines the great race beings now, Greed has inspired many Americans to pursue a lifestyle which will be nothing more than trip into excess. Greed and the lust for it is what has inspired Corporations to take the actions they take. Greed has unfortunately become synonymous with the American Greed. Wall St has become the personification of such greed and excess in creating a society where ethics or social responsibility have taken a back seat. Greed is what drives the Corporate Masters in America and it is this need for Greed which causes Corporations to make the decisions that they make on a regular basis.

Greed in Wall Street is something that has always been conjectured by outsiders. The fact that money seems to be the ultimate end to all the Wall St. firms common knowledge. Movements like Occupy Wall St are constantly pointing out the inequalities in wages, health care and life style between the 1% and the 99% percent of the Nation. However it is much more mortifying when an insider highlights the excess greed. When the Goldman Sachs executive Greg Smith resigned in an instant his words have verified everything that has ever been said about Wall St. in a nutshell. This ultimate insider brought to light how Goldman Sachs basically satisfied there need for greed even if it was at the expense of their clients. This insider basically showed how callous and calculating these individuals are in their treatment of the clients who they even referred to as muppets. This look at Gold man Sachs validates the point of the Occupy Movement. Once again showing that it has become all about profits over people.

The Goldman Sachs anecdote however is just the tip of the iceberg. More often than not the lust for greed extends beyond Wall St. Corporations looking to make a quick buck often cut corners or release inferior products that while putting the lives of consumers at risk will also put more dollars into their pockets. Corporations routinely use cost cutting on safety equipment in the name of making a quick buck. Driven by the lust for greed they take actions which hurt the environment, or cause accidents and ultimately maim and injure individuals. Greed is more often than not responsible for terrible corporate decisions. Because of this lust for greed we the people are often paying for the financial gains of a corporation.

Greed is destructive. Greed unfortunately has become the new American Way. Corporations even despite the fact that they continue to s[pit at society want more deregulation. They want to live in a laissez faire environment that will bring them unlimited profit at the expense of the people. However the time has come for the people to stand up it is time for us top show that we are not “muppets” to be toyed around with but people who will hold them accountable for their misdeeds.
